Hello. My name is Sarah, and I hate vegetables.
I am attempting my first stab (all puns intended) at blogging. I am excited to have my own little slice of web real estate. The intention of this blog is to document my progress toward becoming a better, healthier cook. I've had no formal culinary training, unless of course you count my Family and Consumer Sciences class in 7th grade, but I am motivated to begin eating more healthily, for myself, my husband and our unborn baby (due in June!). I realize that I must lead by example, and as the one who does the food shopping, I am also, by default, the gatekeeper of what goes into our refrigerator and our stomachs.
I must preface this endeavor with a confession. To clear the air. To explain the significance of eating better. To communicate how this is not just a 2012 resolution, but an obstacle to overcome. I HATE VEGETABLES. Let me clarify. It is not so much the taste, nor their aesthetics, it is the texture. They remind me of a watery version of something delicious. Like unknowingly taking a sip of iced tea after all of the ice cubes have melted. This aversion to vegetables (and fruit) clearly stems from a childhood that was free of any force feeding but filled with separate kid meals for me and my sister. Okay, I'll stop blaming my mother. I have a physical reaction when I eat these foods...simply put, I begin to gag.
My husband has a true affinity for fresh fruits and well-prepared vegetables, and my hatrid for produce has been the topic of many a long and heated arguments. He is right.
So, this blog will be documentation of my attempt at experimenting with various recipes and methods of preparation to make even the most picky non-produce consuming individuals eat (without a great deal of convincing, salt, or ketchup) their veggies.
